With the support of the Korean government, a new institute named Tanzania National Geo-Innovation Centre (TNGC) has been established at the University of Dodoma in Tanzania. TNGC is part of the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements (MLHHSD) and its main goal is to enhance the local capacity in utilizing geospatial technologies. These technologies include innovative tools that can greatly improve productivity, not just in land administration and management, but in various other areas.

Geospatial technologies enable us to create maps, pinpoint precise locations using the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), and study different features of the Earth such as rivers, mountains, and cities. The advantages of having timely, detailed, and easily accessible geospatial data are numerous. Geospatial technologies can bridge gaps in information, provide a clearer understanding of where improvements can be made, and offer deeper insights for making smarter decisions.

As a technical institute established within Tanzania's top university, TNGC will take the lead in building a geospatial ecosystem in Tanzania. This involves training technical experts and ultimately becoming a central hub for geospatial activities in the East African Community (EAC) region. The institute's aim is to foster expertise, promote collaboration, and contribute to the development and application of geospatial technologies for the benefit of Tanzania and the broader EAC community.
